Answer: Ken Jennings

Question: Who is still the greatest Jeopardy player ever?
By now, all of you should know that Ken, the player who became famous by not losing a game for months, eventually winding up with more than $2.5 million in winnings, lost the Tournament of Champions. Nearly 150 past winners, the elite of the elite, competed for the chance to match wits with Mr. Jennings. Is it that surprising that one of them wound up beating him? These were people selected specifically to beat him, or lose spectacularly. The fact is, KenJen's record still stands at 75-2. If this is not enough to crown him the greatest, I know not what is. Consider, of all the other contestants who have appeared on Jeopardy in it's more than 20 year history, none have won more than 10 games in a row. You can point to the fact that before last year contestants were limited to 5 games as a reason, and you may have a point. I will admit that there is a good possibility that many of the participants in the Tournament of Champions could have had a streak similar to Ken's. However, they didn't. It's as simple as that. Unless Nancy Zerg, or Brad Rutter, or some other player breaks the fifty game mark, there should be no doubt Ken Jennings is the best ever.

Until I get on that show.

  • You're bordering on unhealthily obsessed. But if you do get on, you have to start with "Well Trebek, fancy meeting you here" in a scottish accent.
